'Tea party' activists: Do they hate liberals more than they love liberty?

Many of the attendees seemed to hate liberals far more than they loved liberty. A CBS/New York Times poll conducted in April showed that two-thirds of tea party members have a favorable opinion of Sarah Palin, and 57 percent have a favorable opinion of George W. Bush. Denouncing big government while approving of President Bush is like denouncing immodesty while sunning oneself on a nude beach. After all, it was Bush who championed the prescription drug benefit for seniors that adds $7 trillion to Washington's unfunded liabilities.

Some of the Republican incumbents endorsed by tea party organizations have been champions of "enhanced interrogation." As long as the feds don't announce specific plans to begin torturing card-carrying conservative activists, why worry?

If tea party activists cannot vigorously oppose torture and other high crimes, then counting on them to stalwartly resist any government policy that doesn't mulct their paycheck is folly.

It does seem hypocritical but I can somewhat understand. Different people have different focus or issue points. Which is worse a government overstepping it's legally granted power or one overstepping an illegal non-granted power? Military adventures while bad are however inside the actual duties of the federal government while deciding tanning salons are evil and should be taxed away is not.

lol illegal non granted? You might want to read the constitution again.
at best you can call HCR "overstepping"

plus you might want to aquint yourself with scotus.. the final decider or what is and what isnt constitutional.. and you can bitch that they make unconstitutional descions.. but the thing is.. SCOTUS is in the constitution.

Which makes their decisions constitutional.(YALL WANT TO THROW THAT OUT.. YALL WANT TO DESTROY THE CONSTITUTION AND IT:S 3 branches)

so kyle I wonder.. do you think it is just overstepping to have the warrantless wiretapps.. which courts HAVE SAID IS ILLEGAL? You know the little thing called the bill or rights?
what about bush;s stated ability to hold americans without charges for life? thats just overstepping legal powers?

what about when bush TOLD california that it could not set it;s own clean air laws.. can you show me the part of the constitution that says the fed over rides the state when ti comes to setting clean air laws?

what about when cheney states that reagan proved deficits dont matter.. that was all fine with yall small feders as well right?

Sorry kyleN but your explanation is might hypocritical.

last can the fed ban your ownership of a nuke?
Just asking.

You jump back and forth in posts between liking the constitution and wanting it 'interpreted' into saying something else and yet call me a hypocrite? Please, try again only this time with some real effort and using all caps? seriously?

As for my argument I said the stuff done in the patriot act was largely unconstitutional IMO and overstepping but it does at least follow (poorly) from one of the enumerated powers that is providing security from foreign sources. This is in contrast to other things such as forcing insurance coverage where exactly was the power granted in the constitution for the federal government to dictate that?

And I still find it amusing when current regime apologists get themselves stuck on Bush and Cheney, are they still in power? No? Ok then.

SCOTUS is in the constitution

Indeed it is. The power to determine what law is Constitutional and what law is not, though, is NOT granted to SCOTUS in the Constitution. Your argument is tantamount to saying warrantless wiretaps are Constitutional because Congress is in the Constitution.

I will agree with you, though, on the lol at "illegal non-granted". EVERYTHING that's not granted is illegal, whether you want to discuss wiretaps, HCR, tanning beds, or mass exterminations.

Kyle:

This is in contrast to other things such as forcing insurance coverage where exactly was the power granted in the constitution for the federal government to dictate that?

The textbook response is "interstate commerce". Just like the Patriot Act, it's a very poorly reasoned excuse, but an excuse just the same...

Yes I have a favorable opinion of GW Bush and Sarah.Except GW spent money like a liberal.I am in favor of wiretaps and waterboarding. Both have proven to be successful. For the most part I dislike liberals and the Christian Science Monitor .So there you have it. Properly pigeonholed.

That's your only criteria?

Statists conservatives have no problem with Governments stepping over its boundaries to illegally attack those they dont like, its when Liberals have that same power to attack their opponents they all of a sudden start to care. Its sad really but not surprising, 90% of politics is tit for tat

Tea Party activists..do they hate liberals more than they love liberty?

I don't know the answer to that one..But Liberals hate freedom more than they hate conservatives..as a matter of fact freedom is the antithesis of liberalism

Right on the spot. The progressives are creating more rules and regulations for us to follow. Health care is the first. The EPA wants to control all the water in the country now. More regulations. And with cap and tax, more regulations. And with card check, more regulations in the work place. Allowing unions to run businesses. Then the clean food law, more regulations. Sounds to me like a government take over of the country. Liberty is being regulated into oblivion. Time for a change, the tea party people get it.

      More regulations.

Yep..and their message is really simple, which is Liberty and Freedom...but the democrats constantly try to confuse the issue by trying to make it complex and something we as conservatives and freedom lovers just wouldn't understand because their brains are much more developed,,It is they who are confused

Looks like conservatives couldnt take criticism from one of their own (kinda) so they attack Bovard just like Liberals do.
